Chris Andrews TD has been active in the Dublin South East constituency for almost 12 years.
In May 2007, Chris was elected for Dublin South East. He was Councillor on Dublin City Council between 1999 and 2004 and between October 2006 and May 2007.
It was almost inevitable that Chris would be interested in politics. His grandfather was CS Todd Andrews, a former Chairman of CIE and of RTÉ who along with Frank Aitken founded Bord na Móna and who fought in the civil war. His father, the former TD and MEP Niall Andrews, served the people of Dublin for many years, as did his uncle, David Andrews, Chairman of the Irish Red Cross and former Minister for Foreign Affairs.
Chris is convenor of the Dail Finance Committee, and is a member of the Trade, Enterprise and Employment Committee and the European Scrutiny Committee. Chris has also been very active in the area of Human rights and development aid. He was a VSO volunteer in The Gambia during 2008
He has a keen interest in sports and plays football with Beechill United Football Club in Donnybrook.
Chris is passionate about politics and feels that there in no greater honour than to serve people in a democracy.
He believes, "We need fair responsible policies that will bring about a greater balance in our society and ensure that everyone has an equal right, and opportunity, to participate in education, training, work and leisure and where services are accessible and focused on the real needs of people." |
